Managing your portfolios
- How do I create a portfolio?
- To create a new portfolio, click on the Add new portfolio link from your profile page. You can always find a link to your profile page in the menu at the top of every page.
- How many portfolios can I have?
- Each member is limited to five portfolios.
- How do I delete a portfolio?
- Portfolios cannot be deleted so make your investments carefully.
- How do I buy stock?
- To purchase stock, you need to create a "buy" order. When submitting the order, select the portfolio you want to place the stock into and specify the number of shares you want to buy. If you don't know the ticker symbol of the company you want to purchase stock in, use the "Find symbol" function to search by company name or keyword. You can only buy as much stock as cash in your portfolio. The system will automatically reduce the number of shares purchased if your order total exceeds your available cash. No lines of credit are available at this time.
- How do I sell stock from my portfolio?
- This is basically the same as buying stock. Create a "sell" order. Select the portfolio containing the stock you want to sell and then select the stock from the drop-down list. Finally, enter the number of shares you want to sell or check the appropriate box to sell all the shares you own of that particular stock.
- What stocks should I buy?
- Whoa, hold on… It's not that simple. This community is full of investors with different levels of knowledge and experience. Start out by looking at the stock predictions and reading the company analysis articles written by your fellow members.
Making predictions
- When can I make a prediction?
- You can make a prediction at any time. One prediction per stock is allowed each week.
- Can I change my prediction?
- No, you cannot change your prediction.
- How many predictions can I make?
- You can submit up to 5 predictions per day.
- How are points awarded based on my predictions?
- For each correct prediction, you will receive 1 point. Incorrect predictions carry no penalty.
Analysis
- I have an opinion/knowledge about a particular company/stock. How do I share that?
- Write an analysis article! It doesn't have to be anything fancy; a couple sentences explaining your thoughts and logic will suffice.
- How do I rate the analysis submitted by another member?
- The quickest way to rate someone else's analysis is by using the "vote" buttons next to the title. Vote "up" if you agree with the analysis and vote "down" if you disagree or think the analysis was lacking in quality. You can also join or start the conversation by submitting a comment on the article.
- How are analysis articles sorted?
- Every "up" vote that an article receives will move the analysis towards the top of the pile. Every "down" vote will bury the article farther down the list. Votes are worth more when they are made closer to when the article was submitted. This helps keep the articles fresh and current.
